Hi specialists.
How important is it to keep protein around 150 to keep the nitrogen balance?

The minimum amount of protein needed to achieve nitrogen balance is 150g, regardless of bodyweight.
I mostly ask because I'm dieting. I'm at a pretty low body fat level, but I'm trying to get rid of the extra love handles. And, as everybody else, I'd like to keep the muscles I gained back last cycle -- after a long break...
I was gaining with about 2800-2900cals/day. (with a bit of fat accumulation)
I now get about 2000-2100 cals/day.
I guess it's okay (maybe not low enough? I cycle every day, about 30min to go to work + HST training + metabolism on the fast side)
Comments? Answers?
Thanks,

Depends on how you are dieting. 150 grams protein per day was the number given by Lyle McDonald as being the amount of protein to maintain nitrogen balance during the adaption period (first 3 weeks) to a ketogenic diet. After about three weeks as little as 50 grams may have a similar effect. This is all based on a sedentary individual using a keto diet presumably and the protein requirement would therefore increase to provide for training. If you go with the standard recommendation of 1 gram protein per pound of bodyweight you should be about right

thanks kiwi.

I am now taking between 150 and 170g prot. daily. So I should be okay. We'll see in 6 weeks...
