Hello,

for a long time I've been drinking a milk based shake before going to bed. Always a mixed protein, contain whey, egg and milk protein...

I did this cause I was told that your body also needs to be fed during the night, so I guess this wasn't as bad, a lot of people do it.

But is it actually good? Does it benefit? Or could I just drink it an hour beforehand? What I do notice is when I drink it, I'm hungry tat the morning, and when not, my stomach needs some working up before the hunger feeling sets in.

thnx

If I remember correctly, your body needs additional protein during sleep. I cannot remember exactly why that is, but I also drink a 20-25g protein shake before bed time. Couldn't hurt, right? Actually, when I was more hardcore, I would get up in the middle of the night and eat, but thats a whole nother story.

Honestly I don't think it really makes a difference; as long as total calories are met at the end of the day. I tend to take a little Whey and 1/2 can tuna about 2 hours before bed or sometimes just Whey.

Hello! :)

I'd have to agree with zoomz. As long as you have a proper diet, and you meet your daily requirement of protein and calories, then your body is good.

Of course, it's a different issue if you sleep several hours after you last ate. If you have dinner at 7pm, and no more meals whatsoever after that, but you sleep at past midnight, it would be better for you to reschedule your diet plan so it would be more evenly spread out on all your waking hours.

But unless you end up starving yourself before you go to bed, and as long as you meet all your protein and calorie requirements, you're good to go. I'm not saying you should stop the habit of drinking that pre-sleep shake, but if it costs you extra money you could use somewhere else, then just use the money on something else. But if it's no hassle at all, then just continue with the habit, no harm done.

Hope that helps! :)
