Replacing carbs with fats/protein

According to O&G and vicious (among others), using less carbs and more proteins and fats has less "risk around the gut", even if the caloric intake is kept the same.

Now, what if someone is extremely active (we're talking hours of high activity daily, coupled with a strength training program), would using only 25-30% carbs be a good idea, or would it be better to up them?

Think along the lines of professional sports - that degree of activity.

My guess is that it would be much better for an athlete at that level to be ingesting more carbs in order to fuel the intense bouts of training.

For most athletes 25-30% carbs would probably be sufficient to maintain training intensity while enhancing body comp, and controlling hormonal fluctuations. In fact, in the XDL2 some ahtletes use 20% carbs when attempting to drop bodyfat. This carb intake is very precise and is usuallu consumed around workout time WFC (WORK FUEL CARBS) About 70-80% of total days intake would take place at this time

Example athlete is consuming 2000 cals per day his overall carb intake for the day is 100 carbs. He might consuem 40-80 wfc while consuming the remainder post WFC. For some ahtletes we have to go a little higher 30% and they seem to do fine.

I have not had any athletes who could function well with 30% (specified types of carbs) assuming their overall nut was sound. It is very important to consume all of the essential proteins and essential fats in addition to this. A sound supplemental program also goes along way

Lower carb may lead to greater caloric control, but outside of calories there is little evidence that swapping them either way will achieve anything
