Rethinking the 3 Hour Rule

I have to eat very often or I start to starve.

I normally eat at the following times:

6:30am Breakfast (oatmeal, egg and toast, green tea, glass of oj/grapefruit juice with milled flaxseed)
9:00am snack (cottage cheese, apple and almonds plus green tea)
11:00am snack (casein protein with milk and milled flaxseed, 1/2 cup of beans, serving of craisins)
1:00pm lunch: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, beans and apple. Usually try to add a little protein here also.
3:30pm snack (some kind of bar)
5-6:00pm (protein shake)
7:00pm Dinner
10-11:00pm snack which is usually a shake

That's M-F. Weekends are different since I am not at work.

lol In terms of fatloss i was pretty much under the illusion before that you needed to eat every 3 hours aswell before to keep your metabolism up and stop blood sugar fluxes yada yada yada
Apart from possibly helping control your appetite it doesnt have much more of an effect, theres been lotsa studies done showing this:

It really has very little if any effect on 24 hour energy expenditure. If eating more frequently helps you control calorie intake then eating smaller amounts more often will help you out, thats all there is to it.
 
I use pubmed pretty much all the time or failing that just google the name of the study to see if anywhere else has it or if lucky get more studies related to the same thing.

Thanks for the studies, good info. That's all I use frequent feedings for. Without them I get home from work and my appetite hits like a truck. With the more frequent feedings it's a lot easier to go home and keep it simple and low.
 
the human body has evolved through feast and famine for thousands of years i think it can store what it needs and use it when needed
 
Well, according to the frequent eaters, the body evolved by eating every few hours.
