Soy Milk

Hey, I drink soy milk and am just wondering if there's anything I should be concerned about, as there are rumors about the estrogens it might contain....although I haven't heard of any definitive research yet. I drink about a cup with my cereal in the morning, and probably 3 more cups throughout the day with my protein shakes, for a total of 4 cups every day. I've been drinking soy milk for quite some time, and haven't developed any feminine features yet, but just curious what your guys' opinion is

I drink 32 oz. of soy/day as well with my protein shakes. They say it isn't beneficial for BB'ing. There is a debate as to whether it actually increases estrogen levels and whether the estrogen then enters the muscles or not. It's probably a safer bet to switch to cow or goat milk for keeping lean and leaving no chance for less muscularity. But, soy has health benefits like reducing cholesterol and some other cardio risk factors. Maybe someone can chime in who is more technical.

Whatever the latest consensus is, it's still just the same soy/estrogen argument, regardless of the form I'd say. There are BB'ers who don't use meat or dairy and grow. We just can't ignore that. I think the real argument isn't wether or not soy protein is good for you and can grow muscle or not (it does), but the estrogen issue alone.

Well right, that's my main concern, the estrogen issue. I've heard of rumors that it's something to be concerned about, yet i've also read that these facts are just that, rumors. So I donno if there's any conclusive evidence out there on the effects of the estrogen in soy products on males and more importantly, muscle growth.

Nothing prevents you to switch for having 1/2 of your soy milk consumption and get skimmed regular milk for the other half if you're having concerns about soy milk.

I'm in the same boat. I drink soy milk often... I love the flavor. I also have a tub of soy protein powder. I use whey now, but don't want the soy stuff to go to waste. Should I chuck it or just mix it with whey and use it up slowly?

Doesn't flax seed have the same estrogenic issues as soy?

When you pass a "C" cup and start reading Cosmopolitan you want to back off a bit.

doj,

I would mix it a 2 parts whey to 1 part soy...no need to let it go to waste IMO. Sh*t, I hope flax doesn't have the same estrogenic effects! If so, I'll have some nice big hairy tits and subscription to Cosmo in no time.

Apparently, flax seeds have more than 3 times as much phytoestrogens than soy beans. The link below lists the phytoestrogen contents of various foods. Flax seed tops the list at 379380 ug/100g. Soy beans come in second at 103920 ug/100g. I do wonder how much phytoestrogen is contained in the protein of soy as opposed to the oil component.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about soy milk. Some guys using AAS get shrunken testicles, too, so you'll fit right in...
