Thoughts on new forum

I may disable the "recent posts" sidebar due to this reason. We are still finding out footing with new forum software and need to add a few anti-spam hacks to minimize these intrusions.

Please keep posting your comments and feedback - especially welcome are critical comments that can help us improve the forum. I plan on devoted more time to making the forum run smoothly on the backend. There are obviously plenty of people here who can make it flow on the frontend :-)

Please be patient as we roll out new features and improvements slowly over time. We'd prefer to launch the site when it is complete but felt it is best to implement upgrades as our schedule permits. The information here is top notch; soon I hope the layout and site CMS are consistent with the quality of the content.

Thanks for letting us know this Millard and for all your hard work in getting the new forum up and running so far.

I look forward to seeing how things progress.

It seems that a whole bunch of spammers are finding their way here and posting all sorts of stuff unrelated to training. What makes this a pain is that the 'What's New/New Posts' links and the 'active discussions/recent posts' side bar are populated with more junk than actual useful info. It was already tricky to get to the posts I wanted to see and this is making it worse.

Is it not possible to just delete the obvious junk posts and ban the user responsible?

Sometimes an appropriate IP address block can be very effective.

Not complaining. I'd just like to help find a solution as I don't suppose this will get better with time? :)
The administrators must be annoyed with all the spam reports I've been sending :)

I'm really tired of the alphabetical thread order already. Isn't changing it to sort by last post a simple back end change?

Me too. I have a partial work-around which is to set my forum settings to this:

The spam is getting annoying as it's clouding out the useful new posts in the 'What's New' section.

My thoughts on the new forum......

You need additional Administrators and Moderators.

I have years of experience with different forum software and have been a systems administrator for over a decade as well. Computers and software are what I do for a living. I have been on this forum for several years and want to see it continue to grow. the way it sits now it is going to drive people away. I would be more than happy to help lighten the load as either an Administrator or Moderator.

It looks like the "Basic Training principles and Methods" and "Performance Research" sub-forum's sort by Last Post. They must have changed those individually. But there should be a global setting to change them all.

That setting only affects the individual threads, not the actual thread order.

Yup, but, by only listing a week's worth of stuff, it does mean that what you are currently interested in is probably listed, even if it isn't in the correct order.

Agreed,

The site needs some care. If you need some assistance please let me know. I can provide you with credentials pm if interested.
