Timing my protein shakes?

Hey guys. I'm new to HST and bodybuilding, and I just started drinking whey protein shakes right after my workouts.

I read the back of the bottle and the instructions said something like:

"add 1 to 3 scoops to 4-12 oz of milk. For best results, consume upon rising, right after workout, and before sleeping."

I've also heard that I should drink one an hour before workout, and right after workout.

What are your thoughts?

Depending on what time of day, drinking one before can be beneficial IMHO. I am working out 30 mins after I wake up in the morning, first thing I do is go downstairs and down a scoop of whey and a half glass of grape juice, separately of course

. How much protein are you averaging with your diet w/o the whey?
 
I currently do the same thing as GatorDude. Sometimes I will also down another scoop of whey right after my workout if I don't think I will have time for breakfast before I leave for work.
 
i take only three. one in morning, one post meal, one before bed.

I'm not a stickler for time, but I usually start drinking mine before the WO and finish it during the WO. I have another directly afterwards.
 
I'm not sure how much protein I'm getting in my diet, I'll search around on how to count so I can get an estimate I guess. Thanks for the replies!
