Training to failure

I've done one week with HST. I've never tried NOT to train to failure.Say my 15 rep max for bicep curls is 50 lb and my first workout is for 25lb. What are the signs that I am about to reach a failure rep and need to drop it and do a short pause?
 
Rep speed will decrease

But you kind of just have to do it by feel, which requires a bit of experience
