Working on abs during HST

They do mine, I can really feel them down in the transverse abdominus if I do them kneeling. Standing - not so much but that's me, others report differently.

Some say that if you feel it in the lower abs you are just feeling the hip flexors working. I tend to disagree, but am not an exercise physiologist and may be wrong. I just keep doing them the way I do because I feel it in the whole abdomen and sort of have abs, after being 300lbs I feel that having sort of abs is progress.
 
I have dropped my ab training to just seated weighted crunches for 20 reps and I am adding weight every time and it burns and hurts like hell!
