I have tried that before and did not like it. I tried it on a flat bench instead of a decline as in the link above but I think that to use enough weight to make this exercise effective for the abs you'll shift the difficulty to supporting and balancing the bar/weights. I think that hugging a plate is a better way to do it.

i find that my plates are too big, and i end up covering my own face, or unable to crunch... perhaps my technique is wrong?
