Ca++ ions, Sodium, Potassium

Well of all the basic muscle physiology I've been reading lately (quite a bit), there's still things that I just don't understand the origin of. This happened for about every article/book segment I read : I would be reading on a topic, and all of the sudden calcium ions, sodium, and potassium would be brought up out of nowhere to go along with the topic. There wasn't any actual information on the origin of these things in any of the articles, so I was totally lost. Does anybody have any good articles explaning the basis of those three things?

And just to save another thread, does anybody have any good DOMS articles?

Thanks as always, maybe one day I'll be semi-knowledgeable

As Aaron just said we get them from the foods we eat. If you are asking how the foods are broken down then thats a whole different ballgame, and as the "Oracle told Neo in the Matrix" that will "really bake your noodle".

in case you were asking what they are for, they interact in sending signals to muscles and controlling the contraction and relaxation. Calcium ions are big in allowing contraction.

depends on where you are talking, cos all essentail nutrients are involved in masses of reactions, even if you limit it to muscle, there are multiple things within the myocyte that even calcium is involved with.

Which is why people become physiologists, and then become specialists within the particular area, because its far too complicated ot know everything perfectly
