dietary cholesterol intake

it is obvious that cholesterol intake from eggs should be taken in context with the rest of the daily diet. it makes no sense to arbitarily assign an egg limit.

so if we are talking about optimum HEALTH (both short and long term), what is a good cholestrol daily allowance?
and while we are here, is 30% of calories from fat (made mostely of efa's) a good guide for long term HEALTH?

as a side line, if someone has a family history of CHD would you suggest a lower dietry fat/cholesterol intake than you suggested in answer to the previous question?

Depends,

have you had your current blood cholesterol levels measured?
THe ~30% level is a population based estimate for reducing the populations cholesterol levels. If yours are fine, its all ok. If the person has raised cholesterol levels, then you alter the diet to change the result.
Dietary cholesterol is a fun one, becuase some people are more effected by raising it than others (genetic differences in processing), so once again, it depends. ($ to lyle.....)

EFAs can never really hurt you, especially if you have CHD in the genes. THe same, IMO, goes for Cholesterol. If you have a clean profile, and avidly weight train and perform CV exercise, dietary cholesterol intake shouldnt be a problem.

High doses of EFA's can potentially hurt you.
but thats a different story (high doses of LNA and LA will decrease HDL and potentially increase LDL, as well as its potential pro-oxidant effect in high doses)
