Grape Nuts

1 cup (2 servings) of grape nuts is a whopping 420 calories 94 carbs and 12 protein

Are these complex carbs? Are they good carbs? According to the box 10 of those carbs end up being fiber and the rest say "other" and its not sugar. Just hoping so because they'd make a great way to push those calories up to where they need to be.

Well the ingredients list "wheat flour" and "barley flour" as the primary ingredients, so it's maybe one shade better than white bread. However, it's very calorie dense--a good thing for you.

You might also try bite-size shredded wheat. It's whole wheat, not "flour". It's not as calorie dense as Grapenuts, but it's pretty heavy. I even had a box of shredded wheat one time that said "Not a Low Calorie Food" right on the box.

Instead of oatmeal, try whole oat groats. They're delicious--you can boil up a big batch every few days and reheat in the microwave. They have a lot more calories than your regular oatmeal. (Find them at a whole foods market.)

Throw some crushed raw or dry-roasted nuts on top of your cereal. Loaded with calories, all the right fats...lots of bang for your buck.
