I know that Niacin is taken by BBs for increasing vascularity prior to contests.

I am wondering if Niacin converts to NAD. There has been some speculation that NAD might be of help in longevity:

Has anyone tried niacin for extended period of time?  (At least a couple of weeks?)  If so, did you feel anything like increased energy level, strength gains, leanness, etc??

P.S.  I posted numerous speculation on longevity and pyruvic acid, and it seems to be totally off the mark.  Sorry folks.

Niacin is directly converted to NAD

as in Nicotimamide function in the body is in
Nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and also Nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP)

I dont know if taking a supplement will increase levels of NAD in hte body, or it iwill just get wizzed out

Aaron,

There is some "hint" and research that niacin might actually aid in longevity. It is especially interesting that there are indications that both niacinamide (non-flush) form and niacin are BOTH active.

The age REVERSING effect of niacinamide has been mentioned in http://www.life-enhancement.com/displayart.asp?id=671

Niacin's effect on longevity is talked about at http://intelegen.com/nutrients/niacin.htm

It would be even more interesting if we can find some compound that "enhances" the effect of niacin ...
