SORE wrist

heyhey guys, t'has been awhile huh!

lately for about 2 weeks, i have been unable to turn (supinate/pronate) my wrist without it hurting. It hurts around the bumpy bit on the wrist when i turn it, and it's a worry. I can't really get a full range of motion supinating and pronating either, has anyone ever had this happen to them?

i'm not sure what it was from either, i'm not sure if weighted chins did it, or whether i fractured somethin out on the dance floor ;) haha but yeah it hurts when i turn it!

It does sound like some ligament strain or bruising. There are a lot of nerves passing through that area and any swelling can cause pain.

If you have been lifting with straps that could do it, esp. if the straps are the "choking" kind. If I do heavy shrugs with that kind of strap I sometimes get a lot of bruising in my wrists which takes about a month to heal.

On the other hand, weighted chins where your hands are supinated can put a lot of strain on your wrists and forearms at the bottom of the movement. It may be due to an individual's anthropometry and/or flexibility as some people seem to suffer from this whereas others don't. I have switched to neutral grip chins for the most part because of this (pull-ups would be kinder too as the hands are then pronated). If I should do chins, I don't quite lower all the way down which definitely reduces the strain on my wrists and forearms.

My right wrist has been hurting for a long time now: I have to wrap to do bench. My left hand has a pinched nerve on the back in the center: I'm sure it's something from doing heavy deads with straps. I'd be scared to list all of my pains and chronic aches in one list.
It's all just part of the game.

ah thanks guys! yeah i'm thinking that it might be from weighted chins, because i've always lowered myself all the way down, do you think that could have done it? i was taught to do chins that way however (letting the scapula fully raise up at the bottom of the movement).
anyways i haven't trained for 2 weeks because of it, not sure if i should just let it heal by itself, or whether a doctor is in order. cos it still hurts, but not as much as it did a week ago.
;)

Its possible. I developed nasty forearm pain from weighted chins myself. Since I have been doing neutral and pronated grip the problem has faded. It sounds like there is inflamation that is causing some impingement.

It can also be from doing heavy presses (bench or overhead) with the bar too far back on the fingers. The bar should be directly over your wrists. Any displacement will put torque on the wrist.

If you havent done anything with it for two weeks you should be able to start rehabbing it with stretching and low weight/high rep sets to lactic acid threshold for the wrist joint.
