Squats and Deads

Just wondering if there's anything wrong with, or any additional safety concerns involved with, doing squats and deadlifts with dumbells. Since I workout at home, squats with a bar are pretty much impossible, so I started doing them with dumbells and it seems to work (though I must admit I am underwhelmed with the size of my legs). I've recently been thinking about trying deadlifts this way, as well. Is this wrong/less effective? I am hoping it will be superior to the prone leg curls I've been doing.

You can definitely do DB DLs, but DLs are primarily a lower back and glute exercise. If you want to hit your hammies, try doing DB SLDLs: http://www.exrx.net/WeightE....ft.html

DB squats are good too, although with both of these, you'll get to a point where you need the bar to hold the weight. Till then, DBs are good!
