I'm enjoying my 3x5 strength training, making slow but sure strength gains, and my thighs have put on another quarter inch or so too...

But I will be unable to wear my pants very much longer, so I'm planning my cut. It will kindof suck, cutting through Thanksgiving, but a couple day lapse shouldn't kill me. I'll lift heavy on those days around the holiday to make the best of the extra calories.

Anyway, I'm considering a upper/lower split -- pretty high volume for me.

Upper:

Inc Bench
Dips
Pullups / alt. / chin ups
Rows
Military Press
Rear Delt Raises/ alt. / front delt raises
Biceps curls
Skull Crushers

Lower:

2 sets ATQ Squats/ alt. / 2 sets DL
2 sets DL/ alt. / 1 set 90 degree squats
Leg extensions
Leg Curls
Standing calf raises
Sit ups
Russian Twists

15 - 25 minutes cardio after each workout (upper and lower).

Six days per week.

Supersetting some exercises.

Two to three weeks in the 10s range, then 8s then 6s or 5s.

Goal will be a pound lost per week.

I set this up based on what I like to do, plus some of what I've read on higher volume being beneficial during cutting. Any suggestions, tweaks, or throw it out and pick a new plan???

Looks bad for me, but it maybe excellent for your body. I think that with cutting, you really can't listen much to anyone but your own lessons learned from experience, unless you have a very educated personal trainer who understands your physique. The kind of regimen I"m on during this cut would be asinine for someone who has a fast metabolism.

I thiink your goal of 1 lb loss per week is excellent. You should retain muscle that way.

etothepi, why not just do what you've already proven works so well for you - with slightly less calories - (you already know my thoughts on cutting, but they probably aren't for you).

About the effectiveness of what you did before - remember the 19 year old I mentioned before that I'm helping design her plan to take her from chubby to a thong bikini by spring and look good in it?

Well last night we were looking over nutrition information, workout plans, and discussing the merits of heavy weights versus lighter weights, HST versus other plans, using machines until you puke (her former paid trainer and female bodybuilder's method), versus free weights done sensibly(my way), we looked at some pics and ran across your before and after (the ones that got me to try HST). She said, "damn, that's a hot math teacher - I may have paid attention in math class and you wouldn't be tutoring me in pharmacology now if he'd been my teacher." Soooo what you did before and know to do this time - is proven to be effective. Personally, if I had a proven program that made 19 year old girls think I was hot - I would do it again.

Just a thought.

However, she was sitting in my lap at the time, not yours.

You sly dog, you!!!

I guess I'm looking for variety, without sacrificing effectiveness. I just want to do more than the same 8 lifts every workout!!!

But yeah, I know what is going to work for me...

About "your way..."

I like the high fat idea. Maybe not as much fat as you do, but I'm not going to cut down to a crazy low, Pritikin style fat ratio. I naturally eat 30, 30, 40 nutrient ratio, and I'm not going to try to change it. May bodu should have plenty of fat to burn.
