Pulldowns are v.good for lat activation.

If I ever bought a machine, that would be the it.

Wait, wut? Why are you gaining 40 lbs? Given that you've already put on a lot of mass over the years, and you're not on drugs to the best of my knowledge, this seems...optimistic.

It doesn't seem like much to me. Remember I took a few years off, so I really haven't put a lot of mass on yet. In the past, my largest was 215, and I want to surpass that, hopefully leaner this time.

Keep in my mind, this will take like 6 months at least ....

Gotcha. Yah, if it's close to a previous high, that should be pretty doable. I'm still ~158 myself (lul), makes me wonder what would happen to my strength if I got up into that ~180-185 range. Perhaps we can form a support group for bulking to talk each other through the rough times of a gut hanging over our belts in the quest for top end strength.

Gotta view the gut as an investment ;). It's like your superannuation fund. Pays out massively in the end.

Bulking is harder than cutting. Go too crazy and you get too fat too fast. But even if you are reasonable about it, it is difficult to feel your pants getting ever tighter. At least with cutting, you keep looking better and better each week so it keeps you motivated.

Well yeah, top end strength plus huge muscles. Honestly, your strength is good, but you could use some more size too. This is HST after all.

I just realized that I am not going to grow huge muscles naturally, without a real bulk cycle. Even if it sucks, I'm convinced cutting and bulking is the best way to grow.

Yeah, I believe with this HST program plus enough food, I can put on a good amount of muscle, along with some fat of course. Which is why I am getting to 10% before I even start.

Hey btw, do you have some recipes or food examples you take when doing Lyle's RFL ... ?

I need something other than 'steak' to sell the Ms on - taste bud discipline is not a strong point :p

Any examples you can share? I do it every now and then but for me, meat + vegetables is all that's required, so I'm out of ammo on this one.

Have you tried making massive omelets with mostly egg whites, one whole egg, fat free cheese and some lean meat inside? These can get very massive, very filling and still have almost no fat or carbs. I used to love these for breakfast because it keeps you full for at least a few hours.

    How many egg whites?

Like 5 or 6 usually, then one whole egg. Depends on the size of your eggs.

I don't bother getting creative. Lots of chicken, fish, salad...vinegar makes a good fat free dressing.

When I was cutting I hated chucking away egg yolks so I just ate them anyway and worked out how else to drop cals. There's a lot of good stuff in the yolks including some protein. OTOH you can buy bottles of egg whites but I like really fresh organic eggs so I didn't go that route either.

All the best getting to 180. I did Lyle's RFL for two weeks at the end of my last looong cut. It worked a treat. Stupidly, I didn't take any pics when I finished and then went on holiday and stuffed my face for a week. It was bliss!

You can also save the extra yolks to make mayonnaise or salad dressing.

I hate missing a workout, but did manual labor all day... Beat!

Yeah, I know how you feel! I missed mine too for the same reason. Have only just finished dinner and it's now 12:40am. At least you'll have burnt plenty of cals.

DeadLift: 355x2 (close to record, my PR is 375 lb.s)

    2x10
WTD. Dips: 220 WG Pulldowns: 140 Arnold Press: 50s Seat Calves: 135

Now that I am getting semi-lean, I feel small, but its funny, when I get a pump going in the gym, I look huge, because of the increased muscle definition. I went in there feeling all small, then I pulled 355 for an easy double. Then I did dips and got a huge upper-body pump, and suddenly I looked like one of the biggest guys in the gym... When I am fatter, I hardly notice the pump as much. ANyway, I feel a lot better about finishing my cut after getting that deadlift, and seeing how big I looked in the gym mirror.

This reminds me of an old Arthur Jones quote - "you can't flex fat." I think this logic shows up in pictures, though, a lot of transformations (e.g. Christian Thibadeau's) from fatter to thinner make it seem like the person has gained a bunch of mass, but the loss of fat, in a sense, "reveals" the muscle underneath.
