Back to Basics

Crazy how fast you are losing fat, Totz, props to you! I feel like I lose muscle as fast as you lose fat.

Has drinking all that water negatively impacted your sleep? I found that when I used to drink that much water, that I would have to pee in the night... so it would wreck my "good" sleep.

@ AderynGlas - You absolutely have to count your liquid carbs. Huge difference between 1 cup of milk/juice and 1 cup of tea/coffee/water.

For sure my water intake has had an impact on my sleep. It's getting better though, I'm not having to pee quite as often now that my body is adapting to the increased water intake. I've never been a heavy sleeper anyway, but it doesn't matter. I'm kind of weird with sleep in that I drop into REM pretty much right away and start dreaming immediately when I sleep, so I think I get more restful sleep than I would otherwise. I have noticed that now that I am dieting and drinking more water, I do have to set aside eight full hours to sleep rather than my usual six.

I carbed up friday and saturday, hit the weights hard each day. I've moved to an upper/lower split and am going four/five days a week depending on my work schedule. Anyway, after the carb up, I'm back to 230.6 lbs which means I've regained a bit. Skinfolds are basically the same, if not a bit tighter, so I'm guessing it was all glycogen replenishment.

I decided to do some chins and dips with bodyweight friday. I got to 20 chins and then quit because I wasn't breathing enough. It was very hot in the gym so I was having difficulty with catching my breath throughout the workout. Anyway, I probably could have kept going on the chins, felt no fatigue at all, and they were mikeynov style, right up to the chest. I was very surprised at how strong I felt in them since I haven't done them in so long. So... I think I may have to add these back in rather than doing pulldowns. Unfortunately, I sold my dip belt a while ago and the gym doesn't have one, so I'll have to find one to purchase before I can add them back in.

My friend, you need to stop selling off your gym equipment ;)

Also, try doing one-arm BB rows ala a T-Bar with no T-Bar, you grab the BB at one end.

Nice chins #s. Marines would lap you up :D

I just found out I have to move 150 miles in October for my job, due to a promotion, so I've got to unload all my stuff unfortunately. I'm going to try selling my power rack, the weights and the bench I have as well, since I'm not entirely sure I will have somewhere to set it all up at home anyway. The huge guy who is the manager of the entire Michigan market lives near where I'm going to be and he tells me there are some really good gyms over there so we will see if I can find something better than the crap hole I go to right now. I'll have to schedule an extended SD around moving time. Who knows how long it will be until I'm settled in and also find a good gym.

Congrats on the promotion. I sold all my stuff, except my dumbell set, when I moved last year. I have a huge set of hexagonal dumbells, though I might even sell that too, as I will probably just use a commercial gym for the rest of time...

I bring a dip belt and my versa grips with me to the gym, but that's about all the equipment I will ever need.

Congrats on the promotion, Totz!! Wish I was closer to Michigan, I'd probably make you an offer on that power rack... course, right now, I've got nowhere to put it... Another option would be to put that gear in storage until you know where you'll be living... who knows, you might end up having the room for it all!

Thanks guys, I'm still dreading the actual move, I hate moving...

I figure that if I get to the point where I have a nice enough house with room, by that point I will be making good enough money to just buy newer equipment to populate my home gym. Until that point, I do prefer having a gym to go to, even if the one I have now is a stain.

Down to 225 lbs today. Roughly 10%. Muscles are deflated again. I'm guessing I'll probably have to drop another 10-15 lbs in order to get significantly under 10%. I don't really feel like bulking yet, so I think I'm going to keep going with this cut and see how lean I can get.

So where are you moving to?

All the very best with your new job and move. It's always going to be unsettling for a while, especially as you have kids etc. I'm probably going to be facing the same thing in a year or two. Can't say I'm looking forward to the move but I'll probably keep all my lifting gear at it will transport easily enough.

I will me moving over toward the Detroit area, probably between Ann Arbor and Detroit.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to a change of scenery and the extra money will definitely be nice.

Mate, are you crazy? Extra money is useless. #Communism

More/better/bigger gyms if you're closer to the hubs?

Yes, my hope is better gyms over there. The big guy at the company told me he goes to Powerhouse and that they are great. Maybe I will check that place out.

Calipers read 9.8. I'm taking a couple weeks off from watching calories then I will decide if I plan to continue or what. I still have some fat over my lower abs so I will most likely start cutting again after a break. I would like to see a bit more quad separation on my legs as well, although it's hard to judge legs with how much hair I have. Really surprised at the vascularity I'm seeing on my calves though.
Thigh caliper is 8mm, chest 6mm and abdominal is 18mm.

I've been eating whatever the the last two days. I ate an entire pizza yesterday. 220.4 as of this morning.

I don't know if I mentioned this yet but I switched to an upper/lower split a while ago and have been going to the gym 4-6 times a week. Last week for a change of pace, I switched over to a DC setup using the same lifts I've been doing but doing the DC split and using rest-pause to get between 15-30 reps per lift each session. Obviously I've had some sarcoplasmic changes as everything looks fuller now. Not really expecting any growth right now even though I stopped cutting calories, just got bored with my basic HST layout. If I'm probably not going to be growing, I might as well change it up and have a little fun for a bit.

Day 1:

Incline Bench
Close grip bench
overhead press (on a machine)
pulldowns or chins (depends on what is free that day)
rack pulls or seated rows

Day 2
Leg Press
Leg Curl
Standing Calves (just added these in)
Bicep curls
pinwheel curls

most everything I get 12-15 reps the first rest-paused set, then 6-8 the second and 4-6 the third. I don't do the rack pulls rest-pause, just do 3x8.

223.4 today. Doubt any of the regained weight is fat.

Today's workout:
Incline bench 135 x 10, 285 x 13,7,6
Shoulder press machine 185 x 13,8,6
Parallel grip pulldown 285 x 16,6,6
Rack pull 315 x 5, 405 x 5, 545 x 5 x 3

Versa on my right hand came unstrapped on the third rep of my third set of rack pulls but I reset and finished. I can double overhand 405 without straps now. Might start testing to see how far I can go without straps.
