Good exercise To replace dips

Can you use an assist machine? I would recommend that you stick with them, if you can, and wait until your strength increases enough that you can start adding on more weight and doing more reps.

Alternatively, if you are doing an HST cycle, just wait until the 5s to add them in, if you can't use a machine for assistance. Do incline bench or something like that instead through the 15s and 10s.

I could only do 5 at the end of last cycle. Now at the start of 5s I'm doing 16.

No worries mate - it will improve. (like A & H)

But in the mean time -- Alternatives:

1) Assited dip machine

2) Decline Bench -- this is VERY simmialar to dips (I like this alternative the best)

3) Cluster 3 dips 5 times

Use small increases in weight when you're doing your BW dips - and by small I mean, 1 or 2kgs, no more. Switch to dips for your post 5s phase, and add a kg every 3-4 workouts if 6 times a week, or every 2nd workout if 3x a week.

Do a couple of negative dips with weights attached - dbs or plates.
