IMO just by looking at the pics, your abs need more work they aren`t prominent enough even though you have some weight to lose (not much) they should be more visible.

I completely agree faz...and I have worked them over the years...half @ss but still after 13+ years in the iron game they should be decent and there not...thats why I think genetics might be a key...but I dont want to use that as a crutch either?

Still, at least we know where we stand; continuing to push for progress, however limited, is the order of the day. Funny thing is, after the last two and half years of HST I'm now 50lb heavier than I was but I still don't feel a whole lot different. I reckon I'd have to get to 230lb without too much fat to feel like I'd made some real progress. Even if I had the hormone levels to support that kind of mass, I don't know if I could keep up the calorie intake necessary to maintain it.</div>
I agree man... I started lifting 2 years ago in january of 2006 of my junior year of high school. I weighed 135 lbs, and now 2 years later after hopping on the scale today, i weighed in at 193. I've gained about 60 lbs of mostly muscle going from around 8% bodyfat to 12% through most of it, although i did hit 6% during wrestling. However, when i look in the mirror i still feel like that same skinny kid even though most of my friends feel i'm much larger than the average 19 year old. I feel like no matter what progress i make i'll never b &quot;big&quot; enough to myself. That being said i'm still proud of what i've done thus far.

what have you done for them,ie just normal crunches etc,or using weights and proggressing the loads over time.

Tabata squats will give you abs!

EDIT*** I just realized I have 17 inches down instead of 16 inch bicep...typo should be fixed now everything else is correct!

I am measuring the biceps correctly you can’t mess them up.

And chest measurements are right across the pecs in the middle…this measurement doesn’t seem to change a lot with a bulk or cut.

Arms defiantly change a lot with added weight.

So does the waist size.

Lol…I don’t squat hardly any at all…to be honest I just do leg presses…I never have desired to have a big squat or big legs so its never been a priority of mine. ( just being honest).

The last real squatting I did was 13 years ago in school…I did box squat over 500 pounds but I was using horindous form and cheating big time with a spotter! So most likely at best my squat would be around 300 pounds give or take (who knows) when I was younger.

Best lifts over the course of my lifting days have been.

Squats somewhere in the 300 pound area?
Deadlifts??? I don’t remember
Bench press 335 or 125 pound dumbbells for reps ( before pec injury).

Quadancer,

My goals have basically been just to continue to look and stay healthy. I don’t have the time or energy to Bodybuild anymore.

I get motivated and want to go all out but that changes with career, family…etc.

So basically for me its been doing a full body routine 2 to 3 times a week at moderate volume levels of 24 to 36 reps per muscle group with 1 exercise per muscle group.

Normally my workouts look like
Chest 24 to 36 reps depending if I am going heavy or light.
Back the same
Shoulders 10 to 20 reps
1 set for biceps and triceps
And Normally 3 sets of Leg press at anywhere from 10 rep max to 20 rep sets.

That’s basically all I do guys for 2 to 3 times a week not conventional hst b/c I don’t have the time …but I basically try to beat my last lift on a lift every week or every other week its normally on a 24 rep day that I do that!

When I say Im going to bulk it just means Im going to eat more burgers French fries and etc…while keep my protein at .7 to 1 gram per pound of bodyweight.

I hope this gives everyone a better idea of my situation for comments / critiques?

Thanks!!!</div>
i think you look spot on. it just seems that some people, me included have such a hard time reaching the visible abs stage. i started getting striations across my shoulders and a nice cut under my chest but still no abs.i just found myself getting thinner and thinner(smaller), so i quit cutting.that was a few years ago and now im gonna try cutting again.

i tend not to bench too much these days as my shoulders are tired. i like to use dumbells, i use 120lbs for reps and sometimes i have to put them up by myself which can be awkward. is this how you injured your peck, by using dumbells?

anywho youve been at it a while now and i think you no what you have to do. just keep going!

If you can think of it I have tried it.

LCARS...you are right about cutting and getting smaller...its sucks until you take your shirt off!

<div></div><div id="QUOTEHEAD">QUOTE</div><div id="QUOTE">I just eat, hit it hard and hope not to miss workouts...then see what happens, which is mostly hitting this wall again and again. It really takes consistency to a fault for most of us to gain at competitive levels. That puts most of us working slobs out of the equation.
Ya know what else I've thought of lately: naturals. Not many of us get really all that big, even some of the young and consistent guys. You wanna get freaky, you gotta do freaky things. *prik.*</div>
I feel you, guys. I tend to think that the most important element in this game is consistency, at least for us naturals.

Looking good, Joe. I think you should continue cutting. Abs will eventually become more visible. I also feel that you could benefit from increasing the load for abs HST style. Size goes a long way as far as visibility is concerned. Don't overdo it, though.

That said, my compliments again. Great work.

Looking good Joe!
I would keep cutting. Are you sure that your bodyfat is 8%? Didn't think one could go that low and not having a visible sixpack. I don't think it has much to do with your ab-training....just shred some more fat and your sixpack will shine through

Just about everything I have read claims ab definition starts to show at 13% BF.
Genetics, age, stress levels, etc make it more difficult to lose fat around the midsection. I am in this same situation. You can see the striations on my arms, shoulders, and legs but I am still carrying too much fat in my chest and midsection.
Have you given any thought to a topical fat loss agent? I know a few people that have used a product called Napalm from Avant Research for spot reduction and they swear by it. I have some on order so maybe in a couple of months I can give you a better personal opinion on it.
Also If you havent already try giving the book Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle by Tom Venuto a read. He is very well know for helping people get ripped and has a very logical no nonsense approach to it.

If you are limiting the squats for personal reasons try front squats as an alternative. I have found that front squats really blast my core section. Fighting the natural pull of the front weight forces my abs to stay contracted more so than back squats. In back squats I find that I have to make a concious effort to keep my abs tight and it is usually the first thing I forget when the weight gets heavy.

and the vomitting afterwards will aid in weight loss

Seriously, I have done Tabata with front squats twice. Both times were the longest 4 mins of my life and both resulted with my head in a trash can looking at my pre-work out meal

I have ordered a new Polar heart rate monitor so I can monitor the calorie expendeture next time I do them. I am very curious to see how many are actually burned doing the set. I am betting it is a pretty high amount!

I don't believe in spot reduction of fat, so therefore I'm very interested in hearing your opinion after trying it dawaro. There's no scientific evidence for it so I guess Venuto don't support it either...but like I said I would love to hear your thoughts afterwards.

You are kidding right?

Edit: Oh bullseye beat me to it!

Implant a wash board. No different than breast augmentation by da ladies. You could probably even get an 18 pack. :laugh

I also do not believe in spot reduction when using excersise as the engine to deliver it. After all you cannot determine what calories get burned or where on the body they come from. Spot reduction via chemical pathway is a completely different animal.
Actually there are studies that support it.
Topical Fat Loss
The last page of the article sites the references.
By no means is it meant to take 2-3&quot; off your waist.

For what it is worth like many others when I first heard about HST I thought there was no way it would work either...sometimes you have to be a little more opened minded and actually look at the information before you simply dismiss it.
