    Pullup Grip Width

The wider the grip, the less ROM, so shoulder width is probably the most effective. Personally I like to mix it up, so I will do the first set as shoulder width pull-ups, then second set parallel grip pull ups, then last set, palm facing chin ups. That plus deadlifts, or T-bar rows, pretty much...

    The Case For Isometrics

Interesting. Back in the days of my HIT and Superslow training, I used a type of isometrics quite a lot. For example. Following a HIT set of dips or skullcrushers, to failure, I would immediately drop on to my knees and with my elbows at right angles, press down on a chair/bench (kind of like a...

    Interesting

I like the linear progression as originally set out in the vanilla HST program, but DUP also fits in too, and it was something Blade wrote about a few years ago in his "Optimal routine" article somewhere in the wide abandonment of the internet, of varying reps and sets during the week...

    Interesting

Ok. Yes, that is very interesting. I have followed HST since the early 2000s, and I always felt that the 15s were underrated. I came from years of HIT style training (blame Dorian Yates!! We only have one legend!) and so I was used to heavy sets of 5-10 reps, not 15s, and I really felt it, and...

    Interesting

:) ok - and hopefully keeping this in simple terms - how - or even, can - that be applied practically? I understand, again very basically, lactic acid that builds up during intense exercise. Is this a way of identifying hypertrophy has been stimulated? Please don't reply in Latin. Us Brits...

As I am sure you know, the problem with calves is that they are a very resilient muscle. For people with full physical mobility, even in a seated down job or environment, the calf muscles are activated, even only partially, almost constantly. So how do we build them, if they are already used to...

    It's Time.

With the typical mass hysteria for fitness and burning off the Decembers excesses, that comes every January the 1st.. I'm not sure that this is the best time to go shopping for fitness equipment unfortunately - because the sellers know that PLONKs (Person with Little Or No Knowledge) will pay...

That is another reason why chins/pull ups and dips are so good an exercise, because they are easy enough to rig up to do negative only movements on, so strap on a belt load of weights and do sets of 5 - or clusters - to reach 25-30 reps Another variation that I like to throw in is 'unilateral'...

Support For Higher Reps For Myo Reps

Pleased for you mate. I sometimes do one legged - I find it better for concentration. Just with the myo reps, on a 10s rest, they seem to recover very quickly, and I end up banging out way too many sets and I dont get much pump for them. I am thinking to cluster instead for AMRAP

Support For Higher Reps For Myo Reps

Many many years ago, I followed a routine - I think it was Poliquin's - that was crazy reps. Something like 75-100 reps toe press on a 45 leg press. Then immediately bent leg toe presses of the same. And then stretching the calf in various positions for about 10 hours afterwards:confused: I...

Support For Higher Reps For Myo Reps

Calves - at least mine - are strange. I currently hit standing calf raises for 5X5 and then follow that with a seated calf with a myo rep set. Activation of 12-15 +4 +4 etc... usually at least 6 or 7 or more myo sets. I increase the weight by 2.5kg (5lb) on the 5X5 every workout, at the moment...

Support For Higher Reps For Myo Reps

I do have a problem with myo-reps on calf exercises, even with higher reps. I find if I rest more than 5 sec between each myo set, then I just keep going and I will do about 6+ myo sets after the activation set. I must have got my calves off ebay. They are crap. :(:(:(

For me, personally, I like to try and keep reps total fairly constant on linear progression. Hence 2 x 15s, 3 x 10s So the weight is increasing constantly while keeping TUL fairly constant. It is just how progression works for me. When I hit 5s and negatives, and I am using a heavier load, I...

    It's Time.

Two of the most underrated exercises in my humble opinion. Push - upper body squat (dips) and - pull - upper body 'reverse deadlift' (chins) Versatile, naturally progressive - with increasing lean bwt - and ideal for HST because they are two exercises that are easy to do in the - also highly...

It still makes me laugh how so many 'gym rats' spend hours working their biceps and put in less than half the effort on their tris - despite the fact that triceps are 2/3 of their arm size... I built my arm size (and back and chest) almost entirely on weighted dips and chin ups - and they are...

Yes. That. I agree 100%. In an arm or 'push' specialisation cycle, then definitely, skullcrushers have an important and effective place and yes, I always/usually include them in my arm specialisation routines, although as a fatigue movement, (higher rep range) following a heavy 5X5 on dips or...
