Yup. Be wise, don't give your immune system another hit until you are back on your feet.

Thank you so much, guys. My doc diagnosed me with strep throat and possibly mono as well. He put me on antibiotics and after 2 days on it I'm feeling better - I may give the gym a try on Monday.

ah man, mono is awful. I had that last summer and had no idea until my spleen started hurting.

Life SD Over

Well - I don't have any more signs of illness, and I'm finally caught up at work. Thanks so much for the support, everyone.

Today was a quick Oly/Chins/Tabata workout.

Snatch:

3 x 5 @ 95; 1 x 4 @ 95

I bent my arms in both the 1st an d 2nd sets, but I got my act together for the last two sets.

Cleans:

95 x 5; 105 x 5; 135 x 3

I need to get back in and rework my form again. The first part of the pull is working, but the catch now needs some attention. I dunno - that's never been the problem area, but whatever.

Chins:

BW x 10; BW x 5 + SH (~:45)

...Just because I miss doing them.

Finally:

Tabata, elliptical: 4:00/2:00 CD

Felt good to be active again. I'm hoping to get a some RP work in tomorrow.

I need to get mine together, follow your lead, and start pulling some snatches!

No colby - no signs of mono. It was all strep. You know, I had strep as a kid and was never even remotely as sick as I was. Weird.

RP: Bench, Squats (sorta)

Bench:

[WU:
135 x 10;
185 x 5;
215 x 3]

10, :45 @ 235

The reps felt good - I think it was a wise decision to step back one time interval to see where I was physically after 2 weeks off.

Squats:

[WU:
135 x 12;
215 x 8;
245 x 3;
265 x 2]

285 x .5

After my 265 reps, I felt something strange in my back, around where my recurrent pull is. So, I decided to try a rep at my work load and see how it felt. I dropped in the hole, felt it again, and dumped out of the rep. The last thing I need as I finally get back to the gym is a pull that sits me for another 2 weeks. So - I'll do some back work tomorrow to target the area and see what happens.

I rounded out the workout with a little bit of yoga, and called it a day.

The snatch is one of the strangest movements, FF. I thought cleans were odd - but snatch work (my immaturity still thinks that phrase is funny) is just plain strange. BUT - the movement has translated into much more power in my deltoids and traps, so for that reason alone, I'll keep doing them.

Maturity doesn't help much. Snatch work is still one of my very favorite things...

Is it not just plain fun that there are so many corollaries between the oh so dirty and strength/Oly training, and all it takes to get there is a tad bit of good, old fashioned perversion? COMEDY!

Back Party! Biceps Were Invited Too!

BB Rev Grip Row:

[WU:
115 x 15;
135 x 10;
165 x 6]

10 x 3 @ 185

Ah triples! I really, really like this exercise. It hits the problem area of my back spot on, and slays my biceps and forearms too. Felt good!

MG Chins:

2 x 6 @ BW; 1 x 4+SH @ BW; 1 x 2+SH @ BW

I like these too! Great, great back targeted work.

Neutral Grip Chins:

2 x 2+SH @ BW; 1 x SH (~:15)

OK - the sole purpose of those sets was to infuse as much blood as possible into my back. It worked very, very well.

I ended the workout with Tabata on the elliptical machine, 4:00/2:00 cd.

All in all, this was exactly what I needed. My back feels amazing, and my biceps haven't seen that much action in a while - so that was good too.

Oly Work: Snatch Day With A Sprinkle Of Cleans

Snatch:

2 x 5 @ 95; 115 x a bunch

The bulk of the work I did today was on my snatch form. "A bunch" was something like 30 reps in singles, doubles, and triples. Some of my form was absolute crap, some semi-OK. I'd love to have the form I persist with 95 pounds, but I must be doing something in the first part of the pull differently with 115 than with 95 that takes all my power away. I'll work on it more next week.

Cleans:

2 x 5 @ 115 (I jerked the last rep of both sets, just to see how it felt); 135 x 2

That last set was silly. I cooked myself with all the snatch reps. I had very little left in the tank for cleans. Regardless, the jerk movement felt pretty good; I may start actually doing clean and jerks more regularly.

I love jerks!

Good for you Tim.

It's often a good idea to focus on just one lift each session. So, instead of snatches and cleans you'd do snatches and some snatch variant eg. snatch balances one Oly session. Then next Oly session you might do cleans (and jerks), hang cleans and perhaps some heavier clean pulls. It gets your brain and body in the groove.

That is a heck of good idea, Lol. Thank you! I truly want to develop these lifts, and focusing on one per Oly session with some related work makes sense.

In other news, I think I know part of why I'm having trouble with snatches - I'm not bending my arms AT ALL. (Thank you, exrx) I can't wait to get back to the gym and re-learn the top part of the lift.

Uh - hi again.

OK. So long story short, I'm working for 3 different companies. For all three, I'm doing rather intense stuff - in other words, we're not talking about paper routes here. Add up everything I've had going on for the past 6 weeks, and you have me not going to the gym because I was sleeping maybe 3 hours a night. The result - a fat, weak version of me.

So - this week will be volume (sorta) workouts with Tabata. Next week may be too, depending on how I feel. I'm thinking that a cycle of triples would do me good, especially if I add in RP at the end of the cycle. So - that's the plan. We'll see how it goes.

Today:

Bench Press:
135 x 8;
155 x 8;
175 x 8;
185 x 8;
195 x 7;
205 x 3;
205 x 3;
135 x 11

Tabata:
4:00, 2:00 cd

I hope to be sore tomorrow.
