Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone knows how much weight you must lose (everything remaining equal) to drop bodyfat.

A nurse told me 3 pounds of fat loss equals a drop of 1% bodyfat.

So if a guy is at 20% bodyfat and wants to get to 10% everything staying equal he would know he needs to lose 30 pounds?

I have also heard its 2 pounds instead of 3? Does anyone know the answer to this.

I ask b/c its a good way of knowing how long it would take me to get into top shape for a special event or just the beach.

I like to try to stay within 5 weeks of being in shape.

All else never stays equal. And think about it this way:you`re let`s say 20% BF(for ease of calculus) and 200 pounds which means you`ve got 40 pounds of fat. By linear interpolation, it would result that 1% bodyfat=
2 pounds of fat, so that`s what you`d have to drop for a 1% BF reduction. But what happens if you`re 250?You`d have to lose 2,5 pounds of fat for a 1% BF reduction.

Realise that the examples may be a bit contorted for ease of calculus and illustrative purposes, but the conclusion is obvious:there`s no precise number of pounds of fat per percent of BF, it depends(like mostly everything in life).
 
3 lbs of fat doesn't mean 1% drop in bodyfat. The numbers are clearly different for a person weighing 180 and a person weighing 250.
 
Well the doctors and the nurse all agreed on 3 pounds of fat as a rough estimate.

In my expierence that would be about right...but I wanted others opinon.

Not sure what everyone doesn't understand about everthing being equal.

Simply put lets use myself as and example.

I currently weigh around 192 at 13% bodyfat.

Lets say I do a cutting cycle and I get in 192 grams of protein a day on a calorie deficit of 500 a day.

So basically in this example I am saying I would maintain all or as much muscle as I could on a cut.

If I am at 13% bodyfat and my target is 10 % bodyfat then this means I would need to lose 3 pounds of fat for a 1% drop if I maintain most of my muscle.

So to hit my target weight of 10% bodyfat I need to lose 3% points of bodyfat or 9 pounds of fat.

So it would be safe to say if I can maintain my new muscle mass from my bulk at 192 and I drop 9 pounds of fat then my target 10 weight would be a lean 183.

my question was in does eveyone agree or disagree that 3 pounds of loss equals roughly 1 pound of fat .....or is it closer to 2 pounds.

Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things...but I thought it was interesting a enough to post.
 
Actually for you going from 192 @ 13%BF to 10% you would have to lose 6.5lbs of fat putting you at 185.5 @ 10% if you spared all LBM, not just muscle. Chances are that you are going to lose LBM even if you dont lose muscle due to loss of glycogen, water, etc. So it may be closer to 3lbs of total body weight to see the actual loss of adipose tissue desired. 3lbs total, in general, isnt a bad estimate because of this, but it really does depend on heavily on BF% and total body weight.

So I Would say for more normal people (those without very high BF%) 2-2.5lbs of fat is a better estimate.
 
It depends completely on how much the person weighs, and how much fat they have. You can't give an absolute number of lbs of fat/% BF.
