Finishing off a bulk with a small cut?

In recomp, a common strategy I've seen is increasing calories over maintenance to increase muscle and facilitate an anabolic environment, then taper off calories to burn off any gained fat. Supposedly during these low calorie times, you can still gain muscle while losing fat because your body is "riding the anabolic wave".

Does this make sense to anyone?

No, that's not how the body works. You cannot build mass without excess calories. Remember your physics - energy cannot be created or destroyed. Even on AAS you will not be able to gain muscle on a calorie deficit.

Also, it is a bad idea to finish a bulk with a cut anyway. You want to maintain the muscle for a while before you start trying to cut.
