I once read training the same muscle group back to back is detrimental

Because there isn't enough time to recover. If i was doing HST and doing flat bench and dumbell flies in the morning and on the same day in the afternoon/evening doing incline bench and cable crossovers. for my 15X1, 10X2, and 5X3, would I gain muscle? Don't want to waste time doing ineffective things.
This would be done every other day of the weekday. M,W,F.

you have 48hrs to recover so there shouldnt be a problem, its just like having a longer break between sets ;)

I don't understand. You said you did your exercises MWF, correct? Then you have 48hrs to recover.

Exercise on Monday, say 8:00am
After 24 hours = Tuesday 8:00 am, no lifting (rest)
After 48 hours = Wednesday 8:00 am, another day of lifting.
After 24 hours = Thursday 8:00 am, no lifting (rest)
After 48 hours = Friday 8:00 am, another day of lifting.

So on an MWF trianing schedule, you have more or less 48hrs in between each session. During weekends, you have an extra day which makes it 72.

from monday pm,to wednesday am, you would have atleast 36hrs,which is plenty for recovery.
