I'm just trying out a few sets of 15 to determine my RM. However, in some exercises my 15 RM is very low, less than 50% of my 1RM

will this be a problem? Should I still work through? It's more apparent in lower body exercises especially calves.

You need to learn to push yourself harder or else work to increase your conditioning. No way is your 15 RM equal to or less than 50% of your 1 RM. It sounds like you either don't have enough work capacity or you are quitting before you are actually truly taxed.

yeah, its a conditioning issue. I used to have this problem when I trained all low rep sets, focusing on heavy weights.... my strength endurance sucked... once I started training again with 8-15 reps sets and lower weights, my body became better at it. Vanilla HST is interesting in that you do all different loads and rep ranges in a 6-8 weeks cycle, so your muscles have to get good at sets of 15, as well as sets of 5, or even negatives.
