As some may now, Im a habitual dumbell user.
I was doing DB bench today, kinda light, as Im taking a leisurely SD this time around.
I kept my upper arm, 45degrees to the body, as bulldog once pointed out, this should emphasize the chest muscles more than 90, but played around with hand positioning. I guess most people go 90 degree to the body with the hand position, I usually go 45 but this time I kept my hands parallel to the body, upper arm 45. Main reason, I have an old injury which when my hands are in the 45-90 degree position, my upper forearm pops, no pain, kinda like a bad elbow pop, which Ive developed that too, just an annoyance.
Can anyone think of any reason why hand positioning would affect the movement, and muscles that are normally involved? I tried to focus on it to get a feel for it, and I didnt notice any difference. I think when you perform shoulder DB press with a parallel hand position, its called a neutral grip and even then, no change to the target muscle.
I have some time to waste, thought Id see what everyone else thought.
Right now, Im thinking it doesnt make a bit of difference.
