What about the weekends?

The research that Bryan references suggestes that you should work each muscle every 48 hours.  And to be honest I have agreed with that for many years...even before ever hearing about HST.  So I'm curious if everyone runs their HST cycle through the weekends or if you take Saturday and Sunday off?  It seems that if your recovery is optimal at 48 hr. that you should work through the weekends to gain as much muscle as fast as possible.  Any opinions on this?

You can if you want. What I do currently is workout every other day, so what days I workout shifts each week. One week I do Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun then the next week Tues, Thurs, Sat. It adds another increment to each rep range though, so that might make it harder for you to increment without zig zagging.

You don't really need to though. Sometimes an extra day if is helpful. But if you feel you respond better to doing it every other day, then go ahead and try it.
For me, it's a motivation thing. If I don't the weights every other day, I get discouraged. In my opinion, keeping yourself motivated is one of the most important parts of fitness.

Keep in mind that the extra day will increase your calorie requirement slightly if you want to gain mass. It doesn't do anything close to what 5 or 6 times a week does to your calorie needs, but you'll want to make sure you're eating properly on the weekends too.

Just curious, but why would you add an extra increment rather than doing 6 for each rep range like you normally would, just not taking extra days off on the weekends?

Simple answer: because I wanted to. It's easier for me to keep each rep range as a two week block for various reasons.
