2016 Log

DL; 3-200kg, 1-220kg, 230kg@4, 240kg@6, 250kg@7, [email protected], [email protected]. 2x2-240kg@8. Going to use “w” to refer to ‘could have added more weight’ for appropriate topsets.

WG OHP; 5-60kg, 3x5-70kg@7.

Pull-ups; 15-bw.

Low-row/lat pulldown station is now made and good to go.

DL; 3-200kg, 1-220kg, 230kg@5, 240kg@6, 250kg@8, 260kg@8–8.5, [email protected]. Wasn’t a true grinder once it started moving but definitely felt the 4.5hrs of sleep and the work from earlier this week.

First time I’ve pulled 270 twice in a week for three years.

Deficits; [email protected].

WG OHP; 5-60kg, 2x5-70kg@5? Felt good.

Lots of thoughts about what to do with Friday sessions.

I’ll probably do doubles and then a lot of volume work for back, squat singles possibly.

Do you compete, @Jester?

No, few reasons;

- I have no interest in benching. Hit 165kg in meet conditions in 2014 and couldn’t get motivation to hit 180kg.

- My left knee won’t permit the knee travel volume for a squat that matters.

- I never compete if I know going in I can’t win. Psychologically it doesn’t do it for me.

DL; 3-200kg, 2-220kg, 230kg@5, 240kg@6-7, 250kg@9. Was intending 260kg double but something wasn’t quite right for 250kg so left it.

Deficits; 3x2-230kg@7.

Pull downs; 3x10-60kg, 3x6-80kg. Lot of time greasing with WD40.

Evening; 4x10-80kg. Better groove.

I completely understand. Your DL loads are impressive, and the cadence suggested to me that you might be doing meet prep. You are crazy strong, Jester. Whatever your motivation - impressive.

deadlift only comp? Surely you would have a chance at winning there?

Thought about it but never actually taken the time to pursue it since moving back here to a Melbourne three years ago. It’s on the list though, will tick it off at some point.

It will mean a temporary suspension of dat dere perma bulk life though :(

I just like to deadlift a lot. Seem to have found a way to do that lets me do it heavy and often. Zero squatting is just a cherry on top :D

Once I can get up to reliable 300kg daily pulls, probably sometime in 6-8 months maybe? Then I’ll start dedicating some energy to squatting again. For now it’s just deadlift, deltas and making my back massive AF.

Added a LOT of ab work to my routine lately. And recommend anyone doing strength orientated lifting do the same.

No point trying to brace with happy meal sized muscles .. you want the quarter pounder of abs doing that shit for you...

DL; 3-200kg, 220kg, 230kg@5, 240kg@8, 250kg@10. Didn’t have another rep but it moved well on film, much faster than it felt.

DL rows; 3x5-170kg.

Ab work later on.

DL; 3-200kg, 1-220kg, 230kg@5, [email protected], [email protected], 260kg@9, [email protected]. 2x2-240kg@8. 270 wasn’t quite a true grinder but not as smooth as last week either.

WG OHP; 5-60kg, [email protected].

Pull-ups; 5kg - 10.

I definitely need to continue to build up my erectors some more. Going to give SLDL a try on Fridays and hypers on Tuesdays. Being mindful that mid-week excessive volume will kill everything dead in the water.

DL; 3-200kg, 1-220kg, 230kg@5, 240kg@7, 250kg@8, 260kg@9. 4x2-240kg@8.

Cable row; 10-80kg, 8x10-100kg.
