5x5, the actual sets

Hi guys, am gonna be doing a 5x5 setup soon, how does one go about doing a 5x5?
It seems like it would be very demanding if it is 5 heavy sets, how would you have the energy to perform all 5 sets of 5 reps with that heavy a weight? I'm sure there would be a long rest between sets...

Does anyone superset the exercises to save time?? Or will that be excruciating?

And i won't be 'pyramiding' sets up to a top weight in the 5th set, i honestly don't see the point in that, only for increasing strength.

cheers guys

Simon, like Legee said, if you attempt a 5x5 without ramping sets you will burn out and/or stall out very quickly. The whole point of 5x5 is to make progress over as many weeks as possible. For a more advanced trainee the number of weeks that progress can be made before having to reset are fewer anyway.

If you are a more seasoned lifter (used to 5 rep range loads in all the basic compound lifts used in a 5x5), resetting and microloading, as well as some ramping, will be key to making better progress.

ah ok thanks guys.

I'm actually doing an arm specialisation routine, and have increased volume to 5x5 (as opposed to say 3x5 when i was doin a HST routine), if i did only the last set with the heavier weight, it really wouldn't be increased volume compared to what i did before.

That's not really 5x5 then...

Have you considered using max-stim or at least some kind of clustering instead of trying to bang out 5 heavy sets of 5?

yeah, it's not actually 5x5 then i guess, it's just increased volume which happens to reach 5 sets of 5, yeah, i'm now using Max-stim on the last 2 sets and gonna see how i go with that.
cheers!
