lol, they should just give up on drug tests, and let them all do roids.

they probably didn't want to get thrown out again like they did in Sydney (though they were reinstated).

<div></div><div id="QUOTEHEAD">QUOTE</div><div id="QUOTE">Michael Cohen, coach of the American women's team, said the Bulgarian case was one of stupidity. ''The drug they were caught with is so easy to detect,'' he said, ''it's like standing on the platform waving a big red flag.''

I think they're poor and can't afford the good stuff.

Funny -- the female East German Olympic competitors used to have to shave and had voices deeper than the judges, but nobody every called them on steroid use. That was usually reserved for American athletes with asthma...

Thanks for the links, FF. I was watching some Olympic lifting from Italy a couple of months ago. It was the first time I'd seen the lower weight classes lift and was really impressed. 150 lb guys snatching over 300lbs!

I wonder if we'll see a +580 C&amp;J or a +475 snatch?

Currently, at a bodyweight of 209 I'm just over middle-heavyweight 94kg class. Hmm, let's see:

Back in 1950 the middle-heavyweight WR for the snatch was 123kg (270lb); today it's 188kg (413.6lb)!
In 1951 the middle-heavyweight WR for the C&amp;J was 157.5kg (346.5lb); today it's 232.5kg (511lb).

The class weights have varied a bit over that time but it's still an education! Mind boggling stuff.

This is interesting too:

Wow. Great info. I bookmarked all of these links. I wanted to start an Olympics thread, but I am glad FF beat me to it! I will definitely be watching this sport. I am in the +105 kg class by just about one kilo. I have never performed either of the two snatch or clean &amp; jerk movements, so, like lol, this will be an education for me.

Haha, last time the Olympics were going on in Sydney 2004, I weighed 180 lbs at approximately 18% body fat. Times have changed...

i love the olypmics. its a shame that here in the UK it is very difficult to find weightlifting gyms i would love to have a crack at the sntach &amp; C+J

Hey, Wannagrow, maybe you are in luck. There is definitely a London Crossfit so they'll definitely be doing Oly lifts. Here's the guy you need to chat with:

I just bought some gymnastic rings from him today. Hope he can help you too.

thanks for that, Lol. Crossfit sounds good except for the crazy 50 press ups followed by 50 pull-ups thing but its definitely better than my current gym.

An Interview with Kendrick Farris

<div></div><div id="QUOTEHEAD">QUOTE</div><div id="QUOTE">Boasting competition bests of 158kg (348lbs) in the Snatch and 201kg (443lbs) in the Clean and Jerk, he is America's #1 ranked weightlifter.</div>

The NBC site vids won't work if you access it from the UK. I expect it would be possible with spoofing though.

The Weightlifting Exchange site seems promising. Be great if it works.

Cheers, FF

edit-
I'm amazed NBC would block British ip's! I read a bit on WE that made me think they were getting their feed from NBC and therefore would block Britain as well.

http://www.threewhitelights.com/  reported that China announced their team.

Long QingQuan sounds like a stud!  there's an awesome youtube video of Long (clean &amp; jerk) in the article.  video link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeaauKDxIbw
<div></div><div id="QUOTEHEAD">QUOTE</div><div id="QUOTE">Don't let his 1990 birth date deceive you. At only 18 years old, Long is the favorite for gold in the 56kg weight class. He snatched 132kg and clean and jerked 160kg at the Olympic Trials in April. He even gave 164kg, 4kg off the world record, a very good go.</div>
