On finishing my first week of 15s (second cycle) I decided to do a set of leg presses to finish up. I was feeling tired and a little queasy after blasting through my routine quickly in a nearly empty gym but had a bit of time left so thought, "What the heck!" I pushed out 15 reps pretty easily and decided to go for 20. Made 20 and reckon I could have gone on to make 25 so was several reps shy of failure.
After this set I was really sucking in air and started to feel a whole lot more queasy. Still, I was done so went out and sat in my car. Feeling ever more nauseous I sat back, closed my eyes and tried to relax, all the while breathing steadily and hoping the feeling would pass.
I opened my eyes and saw... nothing! Well, not quite nothing but everything was really dark and washed with a magenta tinge, almost as if the sun had gone out and there was some sort of very low pinky-red ambient lighting! I closed my eyes and reopened them. No change! Uh oh! I just sat there trying to figure out what the hell was going on and pondering a life of near-blindness. All the while I was still feeling nauseous. I decided not to panic and to wait a while to see what happened. It was a bit like being a malfunctioning Terminator! If little green words had popped up as I looked around then I would have freaked out!
Anyway, after 10 mins or so my vision slowly started to return. The colour information returned first and then the brightness and contrast came back online. After another 5 mins it was as if it never happened. I had forgotten all about feeling queasy so that had passed too.
I think it must have been blood pressure related and will be seeing my GP ASAP. I did make the mistake of eating too soon before my workout - something which I always try to avoid doing. That's why I wasn't overly worried about feeling nauseous. However, the blindness episode was a first and was something I hope never to experience again.
Any of you ever had, or heard of, this before? I'd really appreciate your thoughts. I've never read about this happening but it surely can't be unique to me?
Training tonight went well and without any bad experiences. I was pretty nervous before I started though and didn't bother doing any extra leg presses at the end! Never thought I'd be able to say "I leg pressed till I went blind!"
