Squats widen the waist/hips ?

I have read and heard that squats can widen the waist/hips ?
Is this only the muscles or is the claim that it actually makes you pelvis bone wider ?
If so, why do bodybuilders do them ?
Does you pelvis bone, hip joints, widen with age ?  or is this  just addition of fat ?

Squats will not change your bone structure. However, guys with wide waists tend to be more suited for squating so you will see a lot of "good" squaters with wide waists.

Any change in your waist with squats will be a result of muscle developement and will not make you lose any asthetic that you had before.

BTW, Great site I have learned a ton about lifting here.
