    Joint pain during heavy 5's

Not sure what you are doing before your sets of 5's but I would try to warm up real well first. I have chronic pain in both elbows at the triceps insertion area. If I do a couple of high rep sets of tricep pushdowns before my pressing movements, it seems to help. Once my joints get flushed with...

    Where to go from here(long)?

I'm not gonna go anywhere buddy! Don't want you to be the old guy here !  ;) As I was looking over my training notes from the past couple of years, I realized that I have been using pretty much the same weights for quite some time now. Then I started wondering how many guys that have been using...

    Where to go from here(long)?

During this past summer, I took my longest SD ever - 16 days. I did this at the advice of Old & Grey(I miss him). I really didn't notice much difference in my next cycle though. My normal SD is 9 days. I'm not even sure where I want to go from here.    I can't see myself at 52...

    Where to go from here(long)?

I'm a 52 yr old that has been lifting for over 20 yrs and using HST for the past 4. For the past year, I have been on a plateau strength wise. This means that for my past 6 cycles or so - I have pretty much been using the same rep maxes. I use 1 set for 15's, 2 sets for 10's and 3 sets for 5's...

    Adios

    Adios

O & G, Hope you will reconsider and hang around. Like me, you are old enough to realize that there are a$$holes everywhere - you just gotta ignore them - you can't just step aside and let them take over. I'm sure if you train at a public gym, there are guys strutting around like peacocks...

    Building Muscle

As usual, great stuff O&G! I'm getting ready to give your plan a shot - less volume and more frequency. But first I gotta make it through my longest SD ever - 17 days! This outta be fun - LOL  Firm

    No of Sets

Yeah - I stick to 2 sets for 10's and 3 sets for 5's regardless of the exercise. Firm

    No of Sets

I voted 1 set of 15's, 2 sets of 10's and 3 sets of 5's. I ended up with this after a few cycles of 2 sets for each rep range. I found that 2 sets of 15's drained my energy level and I really saw very little results during 15's anyway - so I do 1 set My body has always responded well to 2 sets...

    Reactions To Muscle

Steve - Glad to see you posting. I have wondered if you are still at it. You were one of the guys that lived here when I first joined in 2002. Great seeing you around again! Firm

    Reactions To Muscle

Great thread - I could talk all day about this. As a 52 yr old that still trains it is real interesting for me - not many 52 yr old guys workout much and the ones that do usually just do cardio of some sort. I am 5'10" and around 210-215 lbs with a 34" waist and arms around 18". I...

To the man who just turned 60

How many hours between sessions during two a days?

I've been doing an AM/PM split for almost 2 yrs. My AM is at 11am and my PM at 4:30 PM. Don't know if that is optimal but it fits my schedule. Sometimes the PM session can be really tough to get through during the 5's but I'm guessing the problem is more my age (52) or the number of sets I do...

    Questions regarding HST

You have it right, I didn't understand. It's been my experience that the longer my SD ( to a point) the better my cycle. I've been doing HST for almost 3 yrs now and I'm finding that I almost need more than 12 days SD to make significant gains. So I would say you are getting off to a great start...

    Questions regarding HST

Sorry BigL - I'm confused.   If you were finding your rep maxes on May 26th - You should not be starting your 1st day of 15's until something like June 6th at the earliest.  Finding your rep-maxes is not part of SD'ing. Maybe I just mis-read what you are doing? Good Luck Firm

    chest shrinking

This is good info. Just started my 5's on an AM/PM 4 day per week program. My strength is good but for some reason my muscles look flat. Since I'm going to Cancun next week, I've been pretty strict with my carb intake. This must be the reason for the flat look - not exactly what I was looking...

    Gongrats to Vicious

Congrats Jules. Thanks for all the advice both thru your general posts and my personal PM's. I'm clustering now per your advice and so far everything is going real well. Firm

    To the Cluster style HST'ers

What does clustering do to your rep maxes. In other words, my incline bench 5 rep max is 235 which I can do for 3 sets of 5 - under normal HST. My second and third sets are real grind it out sets where on a good day I might be able to get 6 reps and others I barely get 5(I only work this close...

    Happy Birthday Firminator

Thanks guys! I hit 52 on Monday. I have been using HST for 3 years now. I don't have the joint pain I always had using the conventional routines. Don't know if it's the age or what but I don't seem to be able to put on size anymore. If I up my eating, the size just seems to head for my waist...
