    Karate kata as Cardio

Rakki, I agree with totentanz and JV. Unless you do the katas really fast, over and over and over, you will not be doing anything that will get your heart rate high enough to approximate anything close to running. And if you do them fast enough to get your heart rate up high, then your form...

RBE, Slow gains and modifying the program.

I work in the medical device manufacturing industry and sometimes we would get complaints about there being a grain or two of dirt in with the product. But it had been sterilized. So it was clean dirt.

Thanks man! Lots of good stuff there. When you said this: "If you want fat to be mobilized more in your workout, don't include carbs in your pre-workout nutrition. You may also want to cut back a little on the carbs on your meal before your workout. Take note that this won't mean you'll be...

Dan, you are funny! That is so true, I remember reading Aaron's posts and thinking, dang, this guy really knows his stuff, why won't he offer up anythng more than one liners? Ah, I suppose that is the way, the more you know, the less you post, Bryan almost never posts. Ah, but I do generalize...

Sem, thanks for feeling my pain...I have seen improvement, just not as drastic as articles will lead you to believe. And I just used that calculator, arms 16.8", yeah right, mine are not quite there yet. 44.9" chest, ok, right now I'm more like 41" and that is at 12-14% bf, the...

JV, Regarding your last post and in defense of HeavyDude, I wrote this as the 1st line on my second post in this thread: "Eating: Yeah, I made dramatic gains and gained some fat when eating big. Then I tried to cut and cut too fast and lost some muscle." In any case, he is right, it...

RBE, Slow gains and modifying the program.

Ok, Thanks for the input…I appreciate all the thoughts. I like the sound of tweaking the program to suit my needs as long as I follow the principles. Eating, I guess I just have to ask what I want. Well, I want to look like those Men's Health cover models...not huge, but very muscular and...

RBE, Slow gains and modifying the program.

Hey thanks for the feedback, here are more questions and some answers. Eating: Yeah, I made dramatic gains and gained some fat when eating big. Then I tried to cut and cut too fast and lost some muscle. Right now I am trying to keep calories slightly above maintenance while eating clean and it...

RBE, Slow gains and modifying the program.

Very low volume, I was a beginner and so I was doing only one set as the beginner program suggests. Eventually I started doing a couple sets in the 5s to keep TUT up. Well, I was hoping to get some insight into the who RBE thing...if I increase weight every couple weeks will I still be running...

    Fiber types vs. capillary density

Hiya, I have read Bryan’s article on targeting different fiber types. In that article, it is explained that a light weight will only activate the type one (slow twitch) fibers and a heavy weight will keep those fibers activated while also activating the type two (fast twitch) fibers. The type...

RBE, Slow gains and modifying the program.

Hello, long time, no post, no worries, I make up with a lack of frequency in the length of my posts... I am having slow size gains…they are noticeable, but after a year, I was hoping to be bigger. One of the problems as I see it is that I just was not able to lift enough weight at the start, so...

Drop Sets VS err, umm, Anti-Drop Sets

Aww Man! Really? Nobody has an opinion on drop sets? Has no-one heard of these rising set things, no-one has an opinion on them? C'mon now, I don't want to have to go to another board...I respect the opinions of the community on this board way to much to post anywhere else. Please give me your...

Drop Sets VS err, umm, Anti-Drop Sets

Ok, we know what drop sets are. And maybe there is a name for this other thing, but I don't know it, so I just described it as anti-drop sets. I'm talking about the opposite of drop sets, i.e. the second set is heavier than the first and the third set is heavier than the second, etc. I was...

Anybody would know why this happening to my chest?

I second the miscommunication theory...but I thought the miscommunication occured when BIZ suggested pre-exhausting the right pec...I think he still had things backwards and meant to pre-exhaust the left pec, which would have a similar effect as pre-exhausting the right shoulder and arm as Dood...

    the frequency poll

Wow, I can't believe that many people are doing 6x a week! They must be counting splits as whole workouts. If not, I am impressed, I barely have time for 3x. Which reminds me...time to go workout. Dan has his own website?! Dan, why not put a link in your sig so anyone can get to it from...well...

    Help! I'm not growing!

Eating 1100 cals over maintenance to shock your system into growth will result in fat, lots of it. I would suggest going up by 400 or 500 cals only, but adjust your macro ratios. Eating 2400 cals a day and only getting 126g of protein is not enough. I know some of the more knowledgable people...

    Fast and slow protein

Your general assumption that a slow protein is better for general use is correct. However, a whey shake in the morning even on non-workout days will help you replenish muscles more quickly in the morning, when you first wake up. But generally speaking, if you are not going to do the whey first...
