    Any recent experiences with CLA?

I used CLA for one 2-month cycle--6 grams a day. My gains during the cycle were about the same as during other cycles when I didn't use CLA.

    Alternatives to dextrose

It's not that post-workout fructose is bad. It's just that fructose is a low glycemic index carb. It's metabolized differently, and doesn't create the fast insulin response you get from a high-g.i. sugar such as dextrose, or the other carb sources mentioned.

    What is Subway Bulking

A forum member used that term in a post: www.hypertrophy-specific.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=566 Re eating at Subway sandwich restaurants because of what looks like pretty good protein/carb/fat ratios.

    how big is everyone?

I'm 5' 9" and 149 at about 10% BF. Serious ectomorphic tendencies. That's at almost 50 years of age. When I was 30, I was about 160 at 7%. Still a runt compared to most of you, but I still had a noticeable weight-trained look. BTW, I had dropped to less than 140, and HST seems to be...

    Health Effects of Overreating

Keep us posted on your results as you work to add muscle mass. I tried the warrior diet for a while, and adjusted to it pretty well as a maintenance diet, but haven't tried it during HST.

    Bodybuilding Bread Machine Perfection

As I understand it, when you chew the unground oats, you don't get the same result in terms of increasing the effective surface area of the carbohydrate, that you do when grinding the oats in a blender. The chewed bolus of unground oats still contains larger chunks of fibrous material that your...

    Where'd you get your username?

Great topic idea... Kihara is the "school" of aikido I practice. So I think of myself as a kiharan. Ki--energy or movement Hara--center "Moving Center" aikido, based on principles of continual movement and awareness of personal or shared center of gravity.

    hydrolized protein

It can be true. Although any protein can be hydrolyzed, having its peptide chains broken into simpler forms, I would expect a product to specify the source unless there's some reason to be vague. When I see "hydrolyzed protein" on a label, I assume it's from a low-quality source such...

    Is this a balanced diet?

Good bulking diet, but more fruits & vegetables = more healthy body. More vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and who knows what other micronutrients. Vegetables: Greens! (spinach, kale, chard, collards etc. and salad greens) You're probably getting a lot of good low glycemic carbs...

    Too many sets?

It's a machine. You sit on a bench, and place your forearms on some padded handles that are around shoulder height out to the left and right sides of your torso, then bring your elbows together in front of your body. in a "crushing" motion that isolates the pectorals. Here's a pic...

    How Long Do You Train?

During 15's: 8 exercises, 16 total sets--about 45 minutes During 10's and 5's: 8 exercises, 24 or more sets--1 to 1 and 1/4 hours Just my second cycle, though, so I'm experimenting and learning...

    Fruits & Vegetables

Hmm. Looks like we might need to rename this thread. Maybe we've said all that's going to be said about fruits and vegetables. "Overeating" and bulimia are fascinating topics certainly worthy of discussion. I tried the "Warrior Diet" that allowed me to eat most of my...

    Should Prohormones be illegal

I would prefer some regulation of legal prohormones. The regulation process is often dismally inadequate, but it might help protect quality of the products, and therefore might also help protect users. For me, the issue hinges on some subjective points. I have heard so many stories about...

What's your opinion of using steroids?

I welcome this thread. I feel strongly conflicted about this issue and it's good to hear about the experiences and opinions of the community. Since I'll turn 50 in a few months, I've been struggling with the problems that come with...maturity (hah!). Every time I go to a health food...

    underfeeding/overfeeding

I think you might be referring to the "ABCDE" program. There was much discussion in the HST forum. Looked to me like another idea that was too good to be true. Do a search under ABCDE and you'll find the thread.

    no more shave

I read in what appeared to be an objective "pro bono" web site (www.hairfacts.com) that the product is bogus and the promoter is a unscrupulous fraud. As much as people are willing to pay for laser treatments, or the suffering they will undergo with waxing treatments, I think this...

    The Warrior Diet

I read Hofmekler's book and tried the diet several months ago. The book was definitely a mixed bag...there seemed to be some "folk wisdom" underlying the diet, and some intriguing hypotheses. But there didn't appear to be any serious science. Nevertheless, I was curious enough to...

    Eating

It could be that only time will tell, as far as your ability to retain muscle gains in later life. I'm an ectomorph too. I gained about 20 pounds of LBM at around age 20, maintaining bodyfat at around 7 percent. I maintained the gain until my mid-30's. Then my body seemed to "revert...
