Baxmans Trip

Great result for deads particularly after squatting. Those push presses are really coming on too.

Actually, for more quad focus, front squats really are the biz. Worth a try if you have access to a rack. Great for developing a strong upper back too; nothing hits my upper back like a heavy set of front squats.

Thanks Lol. I,m going to have to give the front squats a try soon. I'm doing them with the power cleans, but not very heavy.

Finally hit 255 and 225. Happy as hell with that. Swithched back to pendlays from power cleans. The cleans were making me a little nervous, didn't want to have to drop the bar. Last Friday I was having a little trouble holding on to the bar on my last set. I'm bummed about that. I really liked how I felt after doing them. Took my bodyfat % today and I'm coming in around 11%. Not so horribly bad, at least I can still see my upper abs. Most of my fat gain is around the bellybutton and lower back. I'll start thinking about trimming that off as soon as I stall with the 5x5.

do you feel the bar slipping out on the catch?

I've had some trouble with jumping forward and have gotten off balance, but haven't had any trouble w/ losing grip on the bar...

Thanks Colby, Yeah the pr's are new 5rep maxes. Sorry bout that.

Very nice benching. How did it feel? Was it fairly easy? I'm just curious whether you think you'll be able to push it even further next time you bench.

The catch is where the problem is occurring. My ring finger and pinky are slipping to the wrong side of the bar. I was kind of letting the bar roll in my hands and back onto my front delts while going into the front squat position. I found the movement quite smooth and much nicer to my wrists. If I keep a regular grip or hook it really hurts my wrists. Flexibility issue I guess. Maybe I need to stop being a puss and continue to do them. Even with the light weight, they are much more physically and mentally challanging than pendlays.

I could not agree w/ you more on this.

...but I'd hate to read that you'd hurt your wrists doing them. not sure how to increase wrist flexibility...

There are some specific stretches you can do for wrists. I used to have to do them all the time in my kung fu class, and they do work after a while. I don't know how to explain them adequately, but I'll see if I can dig up a link on google.

First 4 reps felt good, but the 5th rep went up real slow. I'll be pushing for 230 for 3 reps on fri and then 230 for 5 on Mon. I'll keep increasing 5# until I stall out!

man...I jinxed myself by replying to this thread! this started happening to me last week.

I thought maybe I was taking too narrow a grip w/ back squats & causing an impingement somewhere. <didn't just make that crackpot idea up, I read it on an actual crackpot site>

...anyways, I've started taking a bit wider grip on the bar while squatting and the numbness hasn't happened at all this week.

Actually, that has been happening to me a lot lately too. If I don't keep my arm at my sides while I'm sleeping, I wake up with them totally numb. Maybe it is due to heavy lifting?

My arm falls asleep so bad occasionally, that I literally need to throw it with my good arm from the position it's in. I've never had it in both arms at once...luckily. I attribute this more to body position than anyting else. Maybe it's possible with the extra mass and weight (possible joint issues) that it happens more easily in BB's.

Sorry to hear about your numb hands guys. The only thing I can figure is it's something to do with the wrists. If I wear a wrist wrap( one for carpal tunnel sp?) I don't have the problem. It is annoying as hell though.

Was supposed to do 158 for push presses, but said what the heck. Stonewalled. It's funny with shoulders that once the load gets up there for me I can only increase in smaller amounts. 5# is just to much. Chins are really suffering on dead day, I'm just running out of steam. Deadlifts were killers. Barely got that 5th rep. Next week I may only go up 5# instead of 10. I will sleep well tonight!!

Missed a rep at 230 for bench today. Gonna hold with the same weights for next week. The wrist stretching exercises from the link in post 112 from fear factory worked great. Thanks again FF. No wrist discomfort today with the power cleans. Also used a hook grip which worked pretty nice.

Have you tried Inzer wrist wraps?

Nice PR on deads, but yeah, they knock the crap out of you...
