    Natural Testosterone boost

Green oats & nettles are said to increase free T levels ~ 100% (ref: Jon Barron). Has anyone tried this?  Any other comments?

    Grapefruit for cutting

FYI, other reports on this study express the use of a control group, which consumed no grapefruit, exercised with the rest, but experienced no weight loss. That said, the study was co-funded by the Florida Department of Citrus and appears to have undergone no peer scrutiny.

    Grapefruit for cutting

I generally avoid fruit (and other carbs) while cutting. Reading the article cited below makes me think grapefruit should be an exception. Comments? Grapefruit Diet

    Eating in the evening

I started minimizing my overnight "protein fast" awhile ago by eating a high-protein (turkey, nuts, milk) snack before bed and another high-protein meal (omelette) first thing in the morning. This has correlated pretty significantly with improved LBM gains, although there have...

    flax

I use some flax meal instead of the oil, figuring it at least has other redeeming qualities (protein, fiber). But I have the same basic question: Is there any value (probable or proven) to ALA (short-chain omega-3) aside from conversion to EPA/DHA (long-chain omega-3)?

    CLA

Wouldn't it be better to take CLA/Fish oil in a larger portion at a lower frequency? For instance, take an entire day's dosage after one (large) meal. That would seem to minimize the amount oxidized. Or are there other factors involved?

    Vinegar for Better Glycogen Repletion?

Thanks for the reply, Blade. That is useful info, but I was thinking of the fat loss scenario, where I assume excess carbs are consumed instead of fat. If acetic acid shuttles more carbs into glycogen stores, allowing more fat to be burned for energy, then I would expect some reduction in...

    Vinegar for Better Glycogen Repletion?

Steve, Do you think it aided fat loss?. I understand this to be the expected net benefit (see Blade's post, page 1)

    Vinegar for Better Glycogen Repletion?

Any updates on this interesting topic, anecdotal or otherwise? One thought I had: if acetic acid improves glycogen repletion, wouldn't we want to decrease post-workout carbs a bit, so there isn't any "spill-over" for conversion to fat?

    Question regarding diet FAQ

While I'm waiting for an expert commentary, I'll chime in... Bryan has written that this is the most efficient ratio, meaning (my interpretation) that if your growth is limited by your intake, this may well be a direction you want to go (higher carbs). I think his & others' remarks about...

    nutrition around workout

I'm no expert, but I understand it to be related to your goals: cutting vs. bulking. If you want to bulk at all costs, by all means carb up prior. If you strive for leaner gains, delaying the carbs helps prevent fat storage.

    Case for less meals

I, too would very much like this idea to work. While I can understand how (some) protein may digest slowly enough to allow it, what about carbs? I assume carb. digestion is much faster, even for complex starches. If avoidance of simple (high GI) sugars is beneficial, based on glucose &amp...

    Pre-mixing Protein

    Pre-mixing Protein

For convenience, I would like to be able to pre-mix protein (with skim milk) and refrigerate for use at a later time, typically within 8 hours. Does anyone know if this has a detrimental effect on protein quality?

Building Muscle and The Calorie Myth

This seems, to me, a little more than semantics. If it were true, wouldn't you want to expend a little (mental) effort "dialing in" caloric needs? For instance, assuming you could measure your BF accurately enough to detect small changes, you could use this feedback to adjust calories...

    Nutrition Pre/Post Cardio

Thanks for the replies, guys. To clarify, "just like your other training" refers to protein intake, not carbs, right? I assume carbs should be minimized pre/post cardio, whereas they have an important purpose (gylcogen replenishment) pre/post HST.

    Vit. A Over-dose

I've noted a recent news story about Vit. A overdose having detrimental effects on bone strength: CNN Story Any comments on this? Given a "clean" diet, is this reason to make sure a multi-vitamin has < 5000 IU? (It appears Bryan takes 1/2 capsule: is this why?) Also, I note many...

    Nutrition Pre/Post Cardio

What is best for pre/post cardio nutrition, given normal HST goals? In case it matters, I utilize tennis (~1.5 hrs., 1-2x/wk) and conventional cardio (~30 min., 1-2x/wk) workouts, both after dinner. I read from Lyle's "stubborn fat removal" article: Is this the answer? Wouldn't...

    Getting enough calories.

Is it even worthwhile to remove the yolks for breakfast? I used to do this, but decided I really needed the extra fat to get near 30%. I suppose the fat slows digestion a bit, which might not be ideal for breakfast?
